The all new SSQQ is proud to present our all new West Coast Swing program! Come join us on Mondays - official West Coast Swing/Whip night at SSQQ.
From 7-9pm, we have 5 levels of West Coast Swing/Whip that you can take.
Level 1 (one month) - You will learn all the basic patterns and basic principles of lead and follow connection that are the foundation to learning West Coast Swing/Whip. Although this is a one month class, it is recommended that you take this class twice if you do not feel comfortable with your basics at the end of the first month.
Level 2 (3 months) - Level 2 is a 3 month series. In level 2, you will learn variations of the 6 count and 8 count basic patterns from level 1 and continue to improve your lead/follow connection. You do not have to take the 3 classes in any particular order after Level 1 as you will be learning new material in each class, along with review of what you should have learned from level 1. We do highly recommend completing all 3 months of level 2 before moving onto level 3 as you will learn many new patterns that you will need for level 3.
Level 3 (3 months) - Level 3 is also a 3 month series. In level 3, you will learn new ways to link your patterns together, i.e. continuations and extensions, multiple spins, and footwork variations. You do not have to take the 3 classes in any particular order after Level 1 as you will be learning new material in each class, along with review of what you should have learned from level 1 and 2. We do recommend completing all 3 months of level 3 before moving onto level 4 as you will learn many principles that will help you as you move on.
Level 4 (ongoing) - Level 4 has 2 options for you: Whip Patterns or West Coast Swing Patterns.
- Whip Patterns - Whip originated in Houston as our variation of West Coast Swing and is an excellent way to enhance your west coast swing. Whip is characterized by a tighter connection, closed positions, double resistance and lots of spins! You will learn intricate and exciting patterns with whip steps, wraps, catches, and more!
- West Coast Swing Patterns - West coast swing is characterized by a more open connection, with more of an open position with opportunities for lots of styling! This class will focus on fun patterns and cool styling.
Level 5 (ongoing) - Level 5 is our Advanced techniques class. For this class, we recommend you have at least a year of west coast swing/whip class experience. Every month, we will focus on specific techniques by building on your fundamentals and taking them to the next level. We will also work on ladies styling, advanced footwork variations and musicality.
Bonus - On Fridays, we offer a Level 1 and 2 review class. If you are already signed up for level 1 or 2, you can take this class for free to get additional review and repetition for your basic techniques. It is highly recommended for level 1 students to come to the Friday class as well as Monday class as repetition is key in learning this dance. Level 2 students are more than welcome to join in to continue working on their basic techniques as they learn new moves in their Monday class. This Friday bonus class is a complement to the Monday classes, but is not intended to be a substitute.
